Accelerating supplier diversity:
Empowering small and diverse businesses

Our Supplier Diversity Programme maximises opportunities for small and diverse businesses to be part of our value chain, and encourages growth. We aim to make a positive socio-economic impact by providing job opportunities and mentorship schemes, supporting local economies and encouraging the growth of local businesses in underrepresented communities.

The programme intentionally focuses on qualified small, women owned, LGBTQ+, minority and other diverse owned businesses.

By sharing skills and business expertise we help these companies to strengthen and grow, nurturing sustainable business practices across society and contributing to health equity.

The programme is currently active in 12 countries: US & Puerto Rico, UK, Brazil, Australia & New Zealand, South Africa, Poland, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, and Switzerland. We aim to expand this presence globally in the coming years.

Building relationships through positive social impact

Supplier diversity is not only about spend. Our programme sees us making a valuable contribution to suppliers’ businesses through mentorship schemes and targeted courses to increase their capabilities, such as our Sustainability Accelerator Programme.

Below are some examples of companies that have benefited from working with us:

Quest Safety Products: A small, minority owned business located in  HUBZone (Historically Underused Business Areas) in Indianapolis in the United States.

Through our partnership with AstraZeneca, we were able to enhance our impact in local communities, doubling our workforce in just 36 months and injecting millions of dollars into the local economy. This collaboration has not only led to the construction of a cutting-edge life sciences facility in a US HUBZone region, but has also revitalised community spaces. It’s created lasting employment, benefits and job growth opportunities for local underserved population.

Sam Yadav President Quest Safety Products, USA.

Qualitest GA: A small business in Switzerland offering healthcare market research.

This programme is a win-win situation because small companies are often agile and resourceful which leads to fresh ideas and fast response times so it’s a great approach for everyone.

Alexander Lorenz Owner and Manager of Qualitest GA, Switzerland

AMPCUS: A minority women-owned technology and business consulting service in the USA.

AstraZeneca’s Supplier Diversity team has been instrumental in the growth and success of diverse suppliers like our business locally and nationally. AstraZeneca’s Intentionally Inclusive programme, Sustainability Accelerator programme, mentorship programmes, networking events, and introductions have helped to expand our presence in the marketplace.
